A Documentary Film

We’ve Launched our Kickstarter Campaign – Please join us!

We are thrilled to announce that Letters from Baghdad, our documentary film, has officially launched its Kickstarter campaign during Women’s History Month to honor Gertrude Bell. The most powerful woman in the British Empire at a time when women had no power, she has been written out of history despite her pivotal role in reshaping the Middle East after World War I.

It is time to bring her story back and we need your help to do it!

We ask you to participate and spread the word (email, Facebook, Twitter, etc) to friends and colleagues by clicking on the link below:

Letters from Baghdad Kickstarter campaign

Our goal is to raise $58,000 in 30 days, starting Friday, March 14th and ending on Thursday April 10th. The funds will pay for the digitization of the rare, never-seen-before archival footage that we will use in the film. The added bonus: once this digitization is completed, the footage will be available not only to LFB but to other filmmakers, historians and the public, contributing to the ongoing preservation of archival footage.

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is the leading online platform for raising money for creative projects through “crowdfunding.” Since launching in 2009, 5.7 million people have pledged $1 billion, funding 57,000 creative projects. It’s all or nothing. The funds only become available to the project if the full amount is pledged.

The magic of crowdfunding happens when a large the number of people support the project by contributing and spreading the word.

“Creative works were funded this way for centuries. Mozart, Beethoven, Whitman, Twain, and other artists funded works in similar ways…by soliciting money from smaller patrons, often called subscribers. In return for their support, these subscribers might have received an early copy or special edition of the work. Kickstarter is an extension of this model, turbocharged by the web.” —  Kickstarter

In the Letters from Baghdad campaign, participants can contribute as little as $5, and up to $10,000, and receive rewards such as a special edition DVD, a signed copy of Gertrude Bell’s biography, an on-screen credit or even a private screening and presentation by the filmmakers. In addition, you can celebrate a woman in your life on our website or in the credits of the film.
